She looked out over the city below, the cool night breeze blowing through her hair and delivering the noises from far below. It was the sounds of the city at night, a city that had no idea of what lay in the shadows all around them. Or maybe it did know, and just chose to ignore it. It would be far better for everyone that way. She leaned over the concrete ledge and peered down at the beings below. Small, insignificant they seemed from up here. They were all to wrapped up in their own lives to even bother to look up. And what if they did? What if one of those self-absorbed beings just happened to look up? What would they see? Would they see the remains of a once beautiful Victorian-style building? The night sky? Her? The latter was most likely not an option. For she chose to be unseen to the unsuspecting world around her. A gust of wind blew her long black hair from behind, and brought with it a scent that she was not familiar with. It was a blessing and a curse to have these ’gifts’, but she did admit that at times they did come in handy. This new scent piqued her interest. It wasn’t every night that someone, or something came by her way. Most were just passing through, but this one….this one was closer to her than most. This one was on the roof with her, the strength of the scent on the wind proved that. She turned around and faced the lonely dark roof. Her eyes scanned the area for any sign of movement. But all she saw was the rooftop air conditioner and the small hut that held the only door in or out. But she knew someone was there. She could sense it! “Come out, come out, where ever you are!” She called into the darkness. Her eyes glowing a soft red. “I won’t bite!” Well….not hard anyway….. A laugh, little more than a chuckle, quietly filled the air between the two. It wasn't unfriendly, nor was it mocking, it was simply the opinion the other had for the statement the lady had made. "Won't bite?" The questioning tone clearly revealed the doubt and more or less the location of the intruder. "Or don't?" The slight change of phrasing made all the difference to the youth who stepped into view. True, it didn't change anything except his perception of her, but those could be important when judging a person's character.
Raising hands that had previously been shoved into pockets, he showed that he had no intention of harming her, yet. Though as he noticed her glowing eyes and the confident way she stood, it crossed Dog's mind that he might find that a hard mission to accomplish. He came forward, not overtly cautious, but with enough respect that she would know that he knew he was not in his own territory, not that he actually had a territory.
Leaning his back on the wall behind him, he stood beside her, wondering just what had prompted him to come up here tonight of all nights. His face held a pleasant mixture of greeting and amusement, though it was more at himself that he was inwardly laughing. Maybe he would find the answer in her and maybe it would all remain a mystery and after tonight he wouldn't see her again. The silence between them might have stretched, but Dog was almost never at a loss for words, even if that meant saying the stupidest things. "You out here for any reason more than just enjoying the night air?" Wasn't much of a conversation piece, but then again, she might not be wanting to talk.

Her eyes became narrow slits, never taking their crimson glare off this intruder, as he walked out from the under the protection of the shadows. Her hands instinctively went to her side, ready to grip the handles of two sharp weapons that she held hidden within secret pockets in the seams of her pant legs. Only to remember that she had left them on her bed.
’Ah, well…’She thought to herself. ‘At least I still have my nails!’
She immediately stretched out her fingers. The blood red paint a sharp contrast to her pale complexion.
“And what if I were?” She questioned taking a step back towards the ledge. “It’s not a crime to be out at night.” There was something about the way he moved that kept her on edge. “Unless, you’re planning to do something criminal.”

From a little way away the scrunching of small feet against the gravelly portion of the roof announced the presence of yet another, and she was easily visible in the small amount of moonligt that hit the roof. Both her skin and her hair were like beacons to alert any nearby of her whereabouts, but she was moving quickly and her small body was swallowed by the shadows that filled the rooftop.
Fi had thought herself alone up here, but she had been wrong, the set of voices made her realize that soon enough. Now, all she wanted to do was reach the other side of the building, from there it was onlt a small jump to the next and there were many handholds in the brick wall of that smaller building. A cloud had brushed past the moon only seconds before and she had taken her chance, but the cloud had not been big enough. If the duo had seen her, she hoped they wouldn't be angry. Fiacha had already had one fit today, falling down in a faint in an alley behind a house where a man had come home drunk and decided to beat his wife. Too many conflicting emotions there, too much complication and mixing of both sides of the spectrum. The man had been simple enough to read, and probably would not have cause her any harm through his thoughts, he was just frustrated, angry and tired. It was his wife, who had forged everything together and left her to wake up in the street.. Fi shook her head, trying to rid it of the remaining traces of the woman's feelings of love and fear and enger.
She tried to stay calm, to stay still and hidden, to wait to be sure of whether the others had heard her or not, to hear their reactions, but like a frightened rabbit, whose fear had once frozen it in place, but that fear had become too much, she fled. Running as fast as she could across the roof. Being as small as she was, there were not many places she couldn't squeeze through, but in her fright, she forgot to watch her feet.
She tripped and froze where she fell, terrified to move. Not because she feared the others up here, but because she feared their attention and what it might do to her mind.

The sounds of footsteps in the gravel momentarily took Anrelle’s eyes off her quarry and she scanned the night in the direction the sounds had come from. Her red eyes allowing her to see things that Humans could not, and quickly she become aware of a rather small shape lying several yards away from her. It would of appeared to be dead, but her demon eyes let her know otherwise.
Her immediate response of two palm-size black fireballs immediately appeared in her hands as he eyes changed their color to black. Anger began to boil within her, this could be nothing more than a trap! A trap by those who wanted her dead.
And she was foolish enough to fall into it.
“What’s going on!” She snapped as the fire within her grasp became more intense. “Who sent you!”

Tension. It showed in every line of her body, the way she crouched slightly and, he just happened to notice, let her hands drop to where weapons might normally be situated. It seemed he was in luck however, since no such pointy objects appeared. Her defensive comeback almost had him holding up his hands again, but he refrained from so obvious a placating gesture. Instead, he began to speak again. If she wanted a word duel, it wasn't for him to complain. "Which we can assume you are or aren't?" His grin returned, crookedly this time. "Or is it-"
Dog cut off abrubtly as the clatter caught his attention. He had heard the soft clicking and grinding as someone moved, but had been prepared to dismiss it as unimportant. At least, that was, until it had crescendoed and the lady had surprised, frighteningly so, with the dark flame sprouting in her hands. Leaping sideways, he had almost landed on the ledge and only a sharp twist had kept him from grief. He cursed quietly, the words falling sharply beneath his breath.
He had thought she had a strange scent about her, but he wouldn't have been able to place it unless he shifted. She had, however, given herself away with the witch fire or whatever it was. Squinting, he could make out the shadow shrouded form of a vaguely human shape and listening hard, he could just catch the sharply indrawn breath. The two questions spoken with force and a decidedly strong amount of anger tore him from further investigations. "What?!" He was, to tell the truth, more shocked than anything, his thoughts too snarled for him to pay any attention to, so he didn't. He also had absolutely no idea what she was talking about.

ooc- sorry for taking so long... please forgive
From her place on the ground, Fiacha could see nothing of what was happening with the others, but she could feel it quite clearly, her fear made their feelings all the more apparent and she whimpered as the woman's anger washed over her. It threatened to seize her completely and thrust her into the woman's mind, going ever deeper until it found the source of that anger. Oftentimes Fi had found that the source was far from obvious and not made to accommodate her ten year old mind. From the anger and slight mix of fear that she caught from the woman, diving into her mind, Fi guessed it would not be fun.
As soon as Anrelle spoke, Fi guessed that her eyes were averted from her prone form and tried to struggle backwards, slithering along the ground like a wounded snake. Indeed, she made so much noise in her terror that she might well have been mistaken for wounded. In a way, such a thought would not be wrong, but of course it would not be right either. Inch by painful grating inch, Fi tried to move herself behind the hut that marked the door up onto the roof. Tries to hide herself, tried to make herself invisible, not there, nowhere, anywhere, but here.
She flinched when the other spoke, hearing the shock in his voice, though strangely she did not feel anything from the young man. Nothing. Strangely enough this made her fear him even more, while at the same time it was comforting to know that he posed no threat to her mental well being. She would try to figure him out later, right now she was busy trying to will her already small body into an even smaller ball.

The sight of the shadowed outline moving stealthy along the ground raised Anrelle’s anxiety level even higher. There were many creatures at her Father’s beck and call that slithered along the ground in an attempt to sneak up on their victim. But she, with her demon eyes now fully blazing in their deep blood red, saw the world around her in a very different view.
She hurled a black fireball towards the slithering form, allowing it to land just behind the silhouette. Immediately, a third ball erupted from the palm of her hand, replacing the first, as she turned her attention towards the male.
“Don’t try to trick me!” Her voice became low and menacing as her demon side grew within her. “I know all His methods. And I must say, yours is by far the weakest I’ve seen yet!”

As she hurled the fire, Dog pushed off to try and intercept it. True, he didn't know what to do and he was rather late to be of any use, but he tried all the same. Mid-air he shed his form as if it were an illusion, the black, shaggy shape of a dog flipping and twisting to pull up and meet the ground facing the lady. He stumbled upon landing, but remained standing, snarling his warning. White teeth sharp against black lips and blazing eyes the blue of a glacier's depths. He had seen who or what it was with them on the roof and he wouldn't let her harm a child.
The words she spoke next only confused him more, but he resumed his human form with the barest flicker of motion. He was crouched, hair undone and bursting like a mane around his face, growling deep in his throat at a lady with glowing red eyes and rather dangerous looking fire balls in her hands. To top it all off, he had no weapons and he wasn't entirely certain that whoever he was protecting wasn't what she suspected it was.
"Trick you! Doesn't seem hard." He muttered to himself, then spoke up, maybe she would see reason. "If you know all His methods, then, this being both a surprise and incredibly weak, why would you think we were sent by Him?" Dog shook his head, backing away and straightening up a bit, if she wasn't prepared to listen, he would fight, though the outcome was far from certain... For him at least. "I don't even know who you're talking about. Calm down, I'm not going to hurt you." He spoke as calmly as he could, with a steady enough voice.

Fi squeaked, rather loudly and unintentionally as a ball of fire landed behind her, and scrabbled to her feet, trying once again to make it to the far side of the building. Her eyes however, caught a glimpse of a dog, a dog changing, a man. She blinked and stood frozen in shock, her stillness allowing her hair to catch the moonlight all the better and shine like a beacon to show exactly where she was.
All her fear was forgotten as she tried to figure out what had happened. A dog was a dog, an animal that she could take comfort in, for the minds of animals were sealed from her and they befriended her easily. HOwever, this dog was also a man. How could that be possible? Why had she seen it? Why had she trusted dogs so implicitly before? What if they were all secretly men and only had stronger powers than she and concealed their thoughts, waiting until she was lulled into a protective feeling to unleash all their horrid evil thoughts and make her hurt again? What if? What if? What if? In the mind of a ten year old, even one as mature as Fiacha's, anything was possible. Unfortunately, most of these possibilities were terrifying and left her feeling more afraid than before. She was well used to people betraying her trust, the fact that one single dog could change from dog to man, meant that the entire population had betrayed her. Sadly, she was not surprised.
Anger replaced the sonfusion that had replaced her fear, but she was just lucid enough to realize that it was not her own. The woman was angry and frightened at the same time, and the closer Fi got to her, the more these feelings seeped into her. Slowly, she shook her head, looking with sad eyes at the man who had once been a dog, and whispered to herself, "No. No. Please, no." She did not want dogs to have betrayed her, she did not want to see into this frightening woman's mind. "No."

She wasn’t sure what caused it, whether it was the sight of the trembling child in the dark, or the look of complete confusion on the young man’s face, but either way, Anrelle could feel the grasp of her demon side ebbing away, allowing for her humanity to resume it’s place as her dominant persona.
The black balls of fire melted away into nothing, her eyes returned to their normal piercing green color as she lowered her head into her hands and tried to shake the whole experience away into the night breeze.
“I’m sorry,” She whispered to those that could hear. “I-I don’t know what came over me.”
She turned from them, angry at herself for allowing, yet again, her darker side to emerge. It was too easy for her to let go of her human side in times of crisis. Too easy for the evil that she kept bottled up inside to explode. It was also to easy to become mad at herself for allowing it to happen in the first place.

He was rather proud of the way he had kept his voice steady as he spoke, for he suddenly remembered just where he had scented something similar before. Dog didn't know how he hadn't recognized it sooner, but maybe it was a good thing. Goddess help him he didn't know what he would have done about it, but at least now he kind of knew how she felt about her other side. When she turned away, Dog wasn't sure who he ought to go to, though the lady seemed to be in less need of a comforting presence, besides, she was older.
He walked quietly to the young girl, crouching down not far from her. He had accepted her appology without a comment and would now pass it on to the child before him if he could. "You ought not to be out here, though to be sure this isn't a typical night." He kept his voice gentle and soft, as though speaking to a panicked animal. "I don't think you need worry any more. By the Goddess this is a strange night."
Dog was fervent as he said that, his faith in the one of whom he spoke obvious. Maybe the girl was in shock, he certainly wouldn't blame her, but something told him that it was something more, something deeper than fright or awe or even terror. Glancing over his shoulder, he watched the lady, his strongest wish right then to know who she had meant when she said 'him'.

Dog was coming nearer, the betrayer, the dog who became man, he was coming closer to her, and Fi did not like that, but she stood very still, not acknowledging his presence. Maybe he would leave her alone if she remained quiet, but no. As he crouched down, Fiacha found herself looking into his eyes, and her body shook in utter terror. Every time she met someone’s eyes all of her mind would enter theirs, that meant another fit and waking up somewhere new. Her nostrils flared in fear and she was breathing heavily, her blue eyes staring directly into his. She couldn’t look away, had never been able to, but something was different about this encounter, surprisingly it took the youngster longer than it should have to figure this out. The man’s mind was shut off from her; it was as though he still wore the form of a dog.
Carefully, Fi shut her eyes and tentatively she grasped a tendril of her mind and tossed it out to Dog, feeling it slide away from him as it did to all animals. A small smile lit up her face, and once again she looked deep into his eyes, for the first time in her life she was completely unafraid, the woman forgotten, as well as the words that Dog had just spoken. None of that mattered now, here was a human who had been a dog and there was no betrayal, she still could not read his mind. She would still be able to find refuge amidst the creatures who lived on the street like her.
She must have appeared quite silly and stupid, standing there staring at the crouching man with a smile on her face, but there was a certain look in her eyes that hinted otherwise. Still, shivers wracked her body, no longer to do with fright, but more with the slight chill of the night. Ignoring these, as Fi was well used to such cold; she continued to stare at the man, big eyes blinking slowly on occasion.

In all her life Anrelle had never seen anything the like of what was transpiring before her. She had fought many of her Father’s followers, both human and demon. And she had fought others that roamed the dark night as she did. But this was new. A child and a man, standing just feet away. And neither of them felt threatening. She would of sensed that. As much as she cursed her darker half, she had come to rely on what good it did do for her.
“Did I hurt-” She cut herself off before she could finish. The idea of hurting an innocent sent waves of disgust coursing through her body. To attack some one weaker was a true sign her demon traits had taken over. Even if it was only temporarily.
She raised her hands palms out, and slowly moved towards them. She had to reassure them that she wouldn’t hurt them. Even if it was only for her peace of mind.

He was caught, well and truly snared. It wasn't the girl's fault, her eyes held such a wealth of mixed feelings he couldn't help but continue to look. He heard the lady shift behind him and could see the girl shivering, but he didn't shake himself out of the strange encounter until her voice snapped him out of it. Standing smoothly, he pulled off the sweatshirt he wore and wrapped it around the child's thin shoulders. Dog moved slowly, each motion precise and easily predicted, he didn't want her to take fright again.
That done with, he turned back to the lady, her words only then registering. "Not physically, though there might be some psychological damage." He was half mocking, half serious, his voice light and his blue eyes sombre. Taking a deep breath to get his thoughts in order, Dog looked, really looked at her and then he decided to go for it. It was a yes or no question and didn't give much away, but it was still hard not to seem both terrified and eager as he spoke up.
"This him you were talking about... He wouldn't happen to be a demon, would he? By the name of Taric?" Dog couldn't keep his voice from lowering in dread as he spoke the name, having every reason to fear this dark creature and here he was, standing opposite one who might know him and just might be fighting against him. Please, Goddess...[/b] He sent the thought whispering away through the night, knowing the ancient huntress would hear him and wondering if she would answer his prayers.
