: In a departure from its normal mainstream fare, 20th Century Fox is praying its new FoxFaith film productions bring in a new congregation of cinema fans as well as fill its corporate collection plates.
Acknowledging the fast-growing – and demographically desirable – number of Americans embracing Christian beliefs, 20th Century Fox will create a new division devoted to the devoted.
The new FoxFaith film division will produce a number of straight-to-DVD and theatrical releases that focus on the core values of and materials produced by evangelical Christians. Budgets for the new films will range from $3 million to around $20 million.
First out of the FoxFaith stable will be LOVE'S ABIDING JOY, a western based on the novel by the Christian writer Janette Oke. It is scheduled for release on October 6.
Lending economic weight to the studio’s decision was the success of 2004’s THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST, a theatrical blockbuster that also sold 15 million DVDs.Source:IFmagazine

Same as the Sci-fi channel im afraid, why else do they play all those fantasy/scifi/creepy/witchish movies? fantasy and sci-fi isn't as in as you think it is. It doesn't win that many awards. Once again Battlestar got had at the Emmy's. I know you don't like those or well..you see those as Hollywood patting one another on the back. But, for the most part the award shows kinda do show what is popular and what isn't. And, sci-fi and fantasy are still on the outter realms.

It shows whats popular to beautiful people? honestly who cares what they think. Sci/fi fantasy doesnt do good movies. Its not because it is an inpopular theme, but because they choose to show b-movie cheap plots. Star-gate isnt their creation, it was a popular movie. Only after did it lose popularity when they decided to 'series' it.

Only after did it lose popularity when they decided to 'series' it. Not all of sci-fi and fantasy is b-movie level. But, they don't go for it because it's against what they like. In a Oscar film you want the most dramatic and such films. That is just how it is. Why Lord winning was wierd, and great. Hollywood controls *As you call them Beautiful people* and yes Oscar's DOES have pull when it comes to films. I know probably don't like hearing that but it's true. Which is why independant films are seeing a surge ..and more of a surge in the past few years while the mainstream studio films are crashing. so while not all award shows count Oscar's does. Because, that will really get the studios in seeing what type of films they want to do for the next year or two.
