It's Official: Craig's 007

As expected, English actor Daniel Craig (Layer Cake) was announced as the new James Bond on Oct. 14 in a news conference in London, ending months of speculation over who would take over from Pierce Brosnan as 007, the Reuters news service reported.

The 37-year-old actor swept up the River Thames on a power launch to a news conference, escorted by Royal Marines boats, the news service reported. Craig will become the first blond Bond and told reporters: "I'm kind of speechless at the moment."

The casting of one of cinema's most iconic characters closes the successful four-film run of Irishman Brosnan. Craig will make his debut as the martini-swilling superspy in Casino Royale, the 21st Bond film, which starts shooting in January.

Craig's hiring ends months of speculation about who would replace Brosnan. Candidates included Britons Clive Owen and Jude Law, Australia's Hugh Jackman and TV's Goran Visnjic.

Only five actors have played Bond since the first film, Dr. No, more than 40 years ago. Brosnan, Sean Connery and Roger Moore were well-loved mainstays as the secret agent, while George Lazenby and Timothy Dalton were less successful. Source:scifi.com

Yes I think it might, he may be forced to dye it in the end There's just been so many Bond's, people get used to tradition

Think it will. Bond's always been darked haired. Not blond, I don't know normally I'd say no but the character of Bond isn't like playing some spy guy it's like playing Hannibal and not having Anthony doing the character. I think they will dei it.

Oh and the new one's a remake of a Sean Connery Bond movie. Just thought that was interesting.

As long as they don't try and give him a personality I'd say they will be a success. Like the last movie was really a tribute to all the great Bond moments. Over all Bond's the only character that can go bang bang kill kill and people will still pay for the movie.

I didn't know it was a remake of a Connery movie...I actually liked him as bond....although I wouldn't say he is my favorite....actually I am not sure which bond would be my favorite......

I say Pierce because when I watch the older films I know they were cool at the time but the gadgets and such are dated. But, it's still cool. Although I'd just say Pierce. the most popular Sean Connery. He made bond and he's done an awesome job not being typed cast. I mean he has and still done a few action films but he's done more then that. So definetly hats off. I don't think Pierce can do that but maybe so.
