Drought will be a big problem in the future—and is already a huge problem in some parts of the world. A lot of water is wasted doing the laundry, but a new type of washing machine has been invented that uses much less water to get clothes clean. How does it do it? It pounds clothes clean with thousands of plastic chips. It also saves energy, because the clothes come out so dry, they don't need a tumble dryer. In the June 10th edition of the Independent, Martin Hickman quotes inventor Stephen Burkinshaw as saying, "The performance of the Xeros process in cleaning clothes has been quite astonishing. We've shown that it can remove all sorts of everyday stains including coffee and lipstick while using a tiny fraction of the water used by conventional machines." Full ArticleI think this is pretty amazing...it would help with the water shortages and it might help with recycling, I mean I am assuming that the tiny chips can be made from regular plastics and what not right? This is smart...using our waste to conserve our resorces.
