A stray dog has been living outside my house. Apparently, someone left it on the side of the road, considering I live out in the middle of nowhere. I can't keep it because I have two small dogs and they are inside dogs. It doesn't allow them to go potty outside without someone there to fend it off. Its a much bigger dog, perhaps part lab. It is very friendly, but I can't take care of it and it really can't be around my dogs...its foot is bigger then Chichi.
The problem is, I can't keep it and there isn't a human society here and the closet animal shelter is like over 100 miles. The farmer solutions is putting the dog to sleep. I can't be part of that....It would haunt me forever....I need advice....
I will try and put up a picture up tomoro.....

Ah, so animal control wouldn't be able to come out there, then? If the dog isn't sick, then he really shouldn't be put to sleep. Do you know anybody who'd be willing to take him?

This is how I got my cats. It makes me sick to think that there are so many people out there that think an animal's life is so disposable!!! I don't know how anyone can just leave them like that!! Too bad you couln't put an add in the paper asking someone to come and pick it up.
My suggestion would be to call animal control and ask them what to do. They might be able to come and get him.

Here in the UK the local police often take in stray dogs then transfer them to dog pounds. Even though the nearest shelter to you is over 100 miles away I'd still give them a ring and ask their advice, they might know of a smaller private operation nearer to you who might take the dog in... I dont think I could be part of a necessary euthanasia either Enchant. Any way you could give the dog some shelter and food outside your house until a permenent solution can be found?
