Do you think that Emo music romanticizes death? I was discussing this with a friend who had read some article online. She stated that the music was the base for the teenage craze that promoted things like the romantic notion of suicide.

Funny thing that you should start this thread now. There was a 12 year girl who killed herslef by jumping off a building the other day, and the media was solely blaming it on the fact that she was emo and that emo music made her do it. I honestly thought it was silly to blame it on music. I'm not too familiar with emo music, so I couldn't know how much it romanticizes death. But my feelings towards it are that even if the music promotes death in a way, it's no excuse for those who listen to it to do what the music says. The same way I feel that listening rap isn't an excuse to act violent. I don't think music influences the person to behave a ceratin way, I think the person's behavious makes them chose a style of music.

You know, this is the same crap that they tried to feed us in the 80's about heavy metal. It's sad to hear that a young girl took her own life, but if she was that intent of taking her own life then she would have done it no matter what she was listening to.

It will always be easier to lay the blame on things as music/TV/movies/games rather than looking for the real causes of problems. Now it's the emo current's turn to take the blame for all the evils of society until the next fad comes in.
