Gov't agencies to tap into project gathering DNA "barcodes" for Earth's 1.8 million known species. While, I know farmers clip thier cattle and other animals with identification tags, and some pet owners place a chip within thier pets...I can't help but wonder if the government has a more sinister plan for them. I read this and it reminded me of Dark Angel. Imagine all our info in a scannable chip placed on our body. I realize that we have idenitfication cards and social security cards, and that our info can be access that way, but I think that this is a whole different level...and I can't help but wonder why, the government would spend so much money on a system that has a method.....When it comes to the goernment, they have the beliefe why build one when you can build two for doub;e the price...while they are building over here for the appearence, they are working covertly on a seperate project. msn

That sounds creepy, but I can also see the good in it. At least, I think I can if I understand what your saying. For example, let's say a child is kidnapped. The police can easily run the child's barcode into a computer and instantly find where he/she is. This could possibly help save his/her life. Another example would be how long it can take to find a matching donor. A doctor could just put in the paitent's barcode, hit match, and voila a perfect donor. There are a lot of good things that could come with this. Of course, there also might be some bad things that I'm not even thinking of, such is the innocence of my mind.

This is true, but there are systems that are already in place for such a situation, that has proven to work... They actually have a program that has a GP tracking system for children, it is a chip. I think we actually discussed that program here at one time on the EE>..an most species actually have a tracking and coding system. They actually use them on the farms and in the oceans and what not...so, the problem I think is for me is...why build a something that could have easily a more dangerous motive for something that we already have for what they are claiming to need it for...

Really? Then why are children still being kidnapped and killed? Do not all children have this chip?
Anyways, I know it could have a more sinister to this, but I still can't think of one. Also, I'm sure that Einstien didn't think his information would be used to produce bombs. Any technology that comes does have its uses in a more evil fashion. It just takes an evil person to envision it.

of course all children do not have this chip...what I am saying that there are systems out there....Even if the goverment impliments this program, it doesn't mean that it will be available to the masses anyways...I am not disregarding the chip or blaming technology or its advancemnt, I just think the government has an alternate motive....
