What was originally intended for tracking cattle is being used to track children. After California pilot program in 2005 that required its students to wear an identification badge implanted with an RFID chip, Rhode Island has decided to step up one better with a similar pilot in January that would require students at Aquidneck Elementary School to wear RFID chipped backpacks. The reason they claim for this is to better track the location of the children in thier bus routes. But the question is being asked....Is it violating the students right to privacy? Although they are claiming that they are not watching the children 24/7 but the fact of the matter is, they have the technology to....What happen to an old fashion phone call or radio call to the bus driver? Full ArticleDoes this violate a students right to privacy? I have mixed feelings about this... While I appreciate the fact that they are watching our children better, I cannot help but think that there is an more sinister reason. What happen to making a phone call to the bus driver? What about radios? I don't understand what the reason behind doing this is, when there is so many other options to consider...not to mention cheaper ones. It seems to be more of a invasion and control factor..... Not to mention the fact, many students leave thier backpacks and other objects on the bus all the time.... What are your thoughts on this....is this a good idea or a bad one?

Nope. I don't care what the reason is...no. I don't care if it'll protect them from friggin child molester's I don't like it. Someone can always come along and pervert the system. Also too what if the School system actually hires someone that wants to do harm to your kid? What them? They got a chip and they find a way to get access to it. Be it directly or indirectly. I'd move if they came to me with that. To 1984 for me.
oh and another thing lots of kids even smaller kids have phones...even if it's just a silly pre-paid phone. I'd give my kid at least that. So can always call..and the buses do have a radio.
