Do you think there is any parallels between the war of terror and the war on communism for the 50 and 60s? I was reading a topic that asked just this. It is eerie to take the two and compare...Do you think it has and will make a difference? How and why?

I dont see a whole lot of resemblance....Communism is based on utopian myths while terrorism is religious extremists...

Don't know if they are the same but they both want there own way and that isn't going to work. can't force anyone. Plus Communism sounds wonderful on paper but isn't practical.

Well, both wars are atypical.
The Red Scare was pretty much that, a scare. Two big boys standing ready with their big sticks.
The War on Terror has a lot of gerrula (sp) fighting.
Both have their own effects on civil liberty. Back in the day we had a huge chase all over hunting down supposid Commies. Today, from the soundbytes I think I've heard, supposidly we've got wonderful phone taps and such.

There is a few similarities though between the two, such as both religious fundamentalism, and communism want strict control over the life of the people over which they rule. But still, I don't think the terrorism today is related to communism of the cold war, though I do believe that communist expansion was a contributor to modern Islamic terrorism.

Yes, they definetly have had an affect on each other, as you said. But I still hold to the idea that they arent related.
