He shines on as his former bandmates mourn the loss of the group's original guiding force THE SKINNY: Syd Barrett, the co-founding member of Pink Floyd has died at age 60. The cause of death is unknown.
In a joint statement, the other members of Pink Floyd -- David Gilmour, Nick Mason, Roger Waters and Richard Wright – said:
"Syd was the guiding light of the early band lineup and leaves a legacy which continues to inspire."
While a guiding force in the early years of the band, his use of LSD resulted in mental instability and he left the group in 1968 although the band continued to make sure he received royalties.
Although Barrett released two solo albums and one 1988 compilation of unreleased tracks, he spent the last three and half decades living quietly in his hometown of Cambridge, England.
The band says a private funeral will be held.source:ifmagazine
