WASHINGTON (AFP) - US hip-hop artist Kanye West accused President George W. Bush of not caring about black people on a live television fundraiser for victims of deadly Hurricane Katrina. Visibly emotional, West broke from the script and attacked the president for the slow response to the humanitarian crisis in the majority black city. " George Bush doesn't care about black people!" he said on the NBC show before the cameras cut to another host who put the fundraiser back on track. West also slammed the media for how it had reported on the crisis. "I hate the way they portray us in the media. You see a black family, it says, 'They're looting.' You see a white family, it says, 'They're looking for food.' And, you know, it's been five days (waiting for federal help) because most of the people are black," he said. In a statement released after the broadcast, NBC said the fundraiser "was a live television event wrought with emotion. "Kanye West departed from the scripted comments that were prepared for him, and his opinions in no way represent the views of the networks," the company said. "It would be most unfortunate if the efforts of the artists who participated tonight and the generosity of millions of Americans who are helping those in need are overshadowed by one person's opinion." Sixty-seven percent of the population of New Orleans is African-American according to 2000 US census figures Source:Yahoo.comI didn't hear the man, but I found out about it on the news last night, but they refused to air it, they also stated the NBC in no way felt the same way, the went on to make excuses claiming he must have been fustrated....I couldn't help but think ...he is warm, got dry show, and will sleep in a warm bed...I bet he didn't give his bed up and I still can't help , but wonder why he didn't see those thousands of whites and other cultures there as well who were just as wet and cold....sometimes reversal of prejudice rears it's ugly head doesn't it?........

Wouldn't be the first time he's lashed out. One time at an awards show he got pissed cause he didn't get anything.

Well first off not to go racial BUT I have seen very few white people and more Blacks. BUT, and here's the but here and like all to take in account of this. either in the 60's or 80 percent of New Orlean's IS BLACK.So gathering that information I'm not shocked to see more blacks.
It's the freedom of speech. I don't know nothing about him moaning over not winning anything -shrugs=. I have it on tape My grandmother recorded it because I had a migrain last night but...there are a lot of poor blacks...and yeah I'v seen whitey a few times not a whole heck of a lot though. -shrugs- but that is what I watch that covers it. And, I'm sure there is a reason why they covered it that way.
honestly and I think Bush has realized he and the government as a whole have messed up. I'm not a Bush man. I don't like bush and I don't agree with alot of what he is about and causes. But, I do think that he does have his moments. 9/11 he calmed down society from going and attacking any terrorist or just about anyone. Here he's kinda realized that someone in his cabinet wasn't really telling him and that while he was getting reports he still dropped the ball. Probably also thinks about those that died. -shrugs- was the media doing a whole "lets look at the black man's troubles and death...live on tv?" Depends. Although I sitll think it's messed up that a reporter can get into any place and yet the Aid as a whole cops, first responders and Red Cross couldn't.

Although I sitll think it's messed up that a reporter can get into any place and yet the Aid as a whole cops, first responders and Red Cross couldn't. I think that is a brilliant point.....How is it that the reporters and business owners have managed to go back into the disaster zone...yet aid can not? I don't think it is a matter of black and white though. Correct New Orleans and Mississppi have a large african american population, there fore that is what is mostly seen, but to single them out as the only ones to suffer and accuse it on racial bigotry , I think was wrong on the part of the Kayne West....I am wondering did he bring food, blankets, clothes, when he flew or drove down to the devestation area? Did he say a cold kid, did he offer that white jacket on his back to that child? Things like this is what irritates me...here we have a very rich man, who yells bigotry and rracism, and that it's all about the white man...yet he has a good amount pf power to help and did he? I understand the fustration of it all, a black man loosing everything does not make it more aweful then a whites..anyways...I think if they go in bring something in with them...dont preach that no on else is.....I am not a politics girl....I would say if anything I would consider myself more of an independent...and atthe moment , I find my faith in Bush a bit lacking as well, but I wouldn't consider him a racsist.....

Yeah I think so. And if it wasn't for the reporters at least in my opinion, being in the way the aide people could be doing their jobs.

I don't know although I'v seen other blow ups. He blew up on this one dj who tried to get him to say whatever he wanted..and yet he wouldn't. He kept saying that it's messed up that they censored the cuss word for butt..but didn't for a white like thing or something. Was dumb.

I Am a bush fan majorly. Do i agree with everything the man does. I am not blind or stupid , of course i dont agree with everything anyone does does. What people must realize is the following :
The Closest major army corp of engineers was in norfolk virginia. That is about 2 days away from the disaster area. They mobilized and moved as fast as the could.
First they had to get tankers in there to pump out the water in flooded areas, this took days to do .
Then they had to send in fema, and other federal organizations to help.
Of course somekind of major response is going to take some time. In light of all factors. I do believe a 5 day response was darn good time. I do not believe they were slow to help . They got there as fast as they could .
