Need a babysitter? How would you feel about going to your local department store and buying one? Japanese parents who can't find a good babysitter now have an alternative that never gets tired -- a friendly robot at the local department store. Full ArticleI don't think so, although....in today's society, people seem to substitue parental and adult supervision with the television and computers..

Althought I agree with you on this one, I can underatand why parents would buy them. Too many times you see the hidden video's from parents who caught they're trusted babysitter abusing their children. I think it's a reflection on society today thqt we would rather trust a machine to look after our children than flesh and blood. Or worse yet, that a machine would take care of them better than flesh and blood.

I understand the need for a robot babysitter, but what if it gets a glitch, or something happens that causes it to malfunction and possibly harm the child?

You're comment reminded me of an old antology show, not sure if it was the Twilight Zone or Tales from the Darkside or something along those lines. And then I get to thinking about all the movies that substituted humanity with AI technology....and as exciting and wonderful as it is, it still makes me feel uneasy...

Me, too. If I had kids, I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving them alone with a robot no matter how sophisticated or good it may be. I wouldn't even feel comfortable leaving them with somebody other than a really good friend or family member, although I'm sure a lot of parents would feel that way.
