I don't know if you all remember awhile back I wrote a post on the Military's Gay Bomb? A bomb that would effect a persons phermones and give them a surge of gayness...lol...well the military are at it again...this time...they are working to uncover and harness the most terrifying chemical imaginable: that most primal odor, the scent of fear. Full ArticleWhile I can imagine some positve possible results with this, I can't help but think that there would be more downfalls then up. Mass rioting, human stampedes...and when would they actually use them? And how would they expose the victums to it? Fear can make people do some sick and twisted things...I am not sure that it would be a advantage.....

I htink the military should work on something a little more useful, like finding out the brain links that create common sense in people, then use it on the commitee that thinks up these projects. WHAT ARE THESE PEOPLE THINKING? Fear is ramped enough in America with the Government constatly informing the press of the 'Terrorist Alert Level' on every holiday (mind you I'm glad that it isn't a daily thing anymore), but for your tax dollars to be spent on the salaries of these fools, is the epitomy(sp) of wastful spending.

I agree and not to mention Fear has the tendency to make people unpredictable. I don't see how a governent could study this and also have control on the studies....Fear is primal, uncontrollable. I highly doubt that there would be an actual controlled envoriment.

Exactly Enchant, fear is what kept us alive as a species tens of thousands of years ago. Mass hysteria has dire consequenses to it.
Case in point, Salem Witch trials.

Personally I think the military just love to waste tax payers money on goofy nonsensical ideas, now if they could develop a weapon that makes people kind and considerate to each other I'd gladly donate my tax money

I agree with you all on the subject but I would like to share some saying/wives tales. Most are true (its only like three or four).
1. Fear is the greatest weapon against the enemy.
2. Anger is only fear inwards (I stole this from a friend).
3. Fear is not only a weapon to use against the enemy but is also a driving force that has saved many lives.
The list goes on really, you just have to look at it in so many different points of view.
This weapon to induce fear may be good, but they would have to adjust it for every individual. As each person has a different chemical balance that keeps them going. Too much fear could literaly(sp) kill a single individual or drive the person into a frenzied and unpredictable state of mind. As too little would only have the effect of just putting dought in a person mind. But Just enough fear, just beyond dought, would be prime and thus, rendering the enemy into a state of indecisiveness.
You must always take into account the phycological chemical balances and imbalances in each individual, not the average person.
Not to mention much much more.

What frightens me about the whole thing is the fact that what if terrorist organization got a hold of this? If this project was created it could be used on the general public, or, to a more extreme sense, a country to whom the government wants complete control over. Nothing like scaring the citizens of your country to keep you in power.
