I am gonna post a rough outline here, and if you like it, I will post more.
This is based kind of off of experiences i had a few years ago, and this documentary called 12 days of Terror i saw on the discovery channel. There was also a documentary on there called Prophets of Science Fiction, featuring my two favorite authors, Jules Verne and H.G. Wells, and examining their idealisms. Anyway, tell me what you think.
A group of boys in the Atlantic coast have been striving all summer long to create a raft in their nearby creek. They have been secretely collecting wood and other supplies. Finally, after painstaking work, they create it. After several weeks of enjoyment on their raft, one day on it will change their lives forever.
Their creek branches off from the Atlantic, and it is very wide and a harbor for many fish. They station their raft near its mouth, and close to the Ocean. One day, as they are fishing, a shark comes into their waters. They are trapped on the raft. AS the shark continually threatens their lives, they begin to compete for space on the raft. Some of them lose mental stability. It will take sever mental and physical stamina to survive.
What do you think?

I think it is an intriguing concept...its hard to tell where you are going with it, but the best part of a story is the journey.. I look forward to reading it.

I have to say it sounds vaguely like 'Lifeboat'. As I recall, based on a novel by... John Steinbeck? Could have that wrong. But it was turned into a movie, directed by Alfred Hitchcock. It was about this group of people stuck in a lifeboat after Germans torpedoed their ship (WWII) and kind of the emotional impact of it all.
Just made me think of it lol, but it could be interesting to see what you do with the idea.
