....is it when you have memeber on a site that won't post because there isn't much activity!
It's a vicious circle, they won't post because the site is quiet, and the site is quiet because they won't post!!!
This has nothing to do with this forum...it has to do with my own. I have over 30 memebers on one and I'm lucky if I have 5 active posters.
I find it all very frustrating, considering the fact that I love to write sci-fi, which is why I created the forums in the first place.

I'm part of a board where we've got a little over 100 members. I think we had 2 posts in the last month or so.
We just got a horrendus flurry of activity. It's nice to have posts, sure, but it's horrible that what brought people out of lurking was that they found the body of a friend of one of the posters.

I find it all very frustrating, considering the fact that I love to write sci-fi, which is why I created the forums in the first place. *pouts* A simple explanation for a lot of folks, Ive ran quite a few proboards in the past, none currently since I chose to end a lot of drama on one. Forum activity is only as good as the ones who run it, that 30 member one you mention Rell is your star wars rpg, and no offense but the time it took me just to apply there, then to receive reply, then to reply again, without seeing any activity within the forum itself, is what turned me off to it. If you want to mantain an rpg, you have to start out super active since rpg's themselves tend to be inactive anyway. Most forums with 100 members but ends up dead has simply used up its subject matter. I ran a political forum for 6 months and it stopped suddenly, because we simply ran out of thing to debate. The most succesful forum I ever ran was a forum of 8 or 9 of us playing an online game. The members activity wasnt constant, but ours was, so we maintaned the forum over 3 years and gained only 50 members. After most of us had left there were still 3 of us talking to each other, about the same amount of posts on the element each week. Its a myth to think the more members the more activity, a forum is only as active as its owners, which is why the element is active. Aaron is here everyday, so is Enchant. Alexia comes nearly as often and britny comes a bout 3 times a week. I happen to be here, but im (as you can tell) more active than an average member.

Thanks Aaron. But doesn't it drive you nuts? Not really. I don't have people coming to me about things anymore. That and what I originally had it for and such is pretty much dead. None of the site's and such really want or is willing to do that much anymore. There to burned out on it. That and honestly I don't need a sequal to the war that happened with another board. They LOVE being number 1. Well let 'em. Makes there members and designers *Who are there friends* emotionally and physically spent..then fine they deserve to be there. that and knew there would be a day when I wasn't going to be the top, and it was going to end anyway. My room's doing good. Which is what I want!

Admin barely ever posted on my favorite board. He took a lot of time doing the main site. Our war on the board was great fun, and we had enough active people to end up with a third side to it. We were also invaded once, that was interesting.
I was recently pointed to a board that's about the same thing, but it doesn't have the same feel even though it has a few of the same people. The mods aren't all friendly and such and are jerks sometimes.

Oh really, and just how is one to start off 'super active'? Explain to me how you do that on a rpg forum?
The majority of members haven't even logged on to the site past the initial registration. So how am I suoppose to get them to post?! Force them too?
If more members would stick around and actually finish the threads that they started, then that would incourage others to post. Also, if new members would ACTUALLY POST SOMETHING other than 'hey i joined and now I'm going to leave', that would of helped too. You never even bothered to try and post something that wasn't sarcastic.
And what am I? chopped liver?

Yea this is why I try not to do criticisms, people blow it way out of proportion and take it personal. I was on your site nearly a week and there was 3 posts. I made a suggestion about the graphics and was shot down pretty fast. As I said before, you cant count on your members to post, you have to have somebody you know, its better to have more than 3, on the forum all the time so you can keep up activity. An rpg absolutely needs activity, so when you first start one its going to be inactive for a while, you have to rely on those you know. Once it gains a few active members, not just 'members' in general, it might take off but theres no gaurantee. Thats the way rpg's are. And hey Rell, im trying to be nice here. You seem real frustrated and I thought I could help you out.

Volt your not telling me anything new. I already know this, my problem is trying to keep the members going. Maybe if you'd started a thread or maybe joined one, that member would of posted too. But you never even gave the site a chance. My entire site is made up of pple like that. That's why I'm so frustrated!!
We all have busy lives, and can't always get on every day. I understand this, I just wish there were members who were a little more dedicated to it. That's all.
I know Volt, but the way you post sometimes, it comes across as being sarcastic and very condesending.
Well, the colors are a turn off for me. Itd be nice if there was some nice graphics around here. No disrespect intended for ya. Im still deciding if I want to stay.
Honestly, Volt. How would you take that statement?

I think to an extent the things that were once really, really active have gotten pretty slow. Almost as if the past 3 or 4 years people just have gotten more into r/t and such. Which isn't so bad and is alright. That is life. I don't know.

Yeah, I notice on other sites that there are periods of less activity, then all of a sudden it just jumps. I wonder why that is?

Rell, you dont 'take it'. Im not insulting you, and I said that in my post. Honestly waht am I supposed to post that wouldnt sound sarcastic and condescending to you? Everything I say is an insult to you. Those light blue colors gave me a headache. I wasnt going to say that because that would be an insult. My point is you cannot count on your members. They come they go, but they are never absolutes. Thats all Im saying.
